Learn and Explore the Callaway

Stretch your imagination in Callaway County. Be inspired – and learn a thing or two – in the museums, landmarks, and experiences of the Callaway County.

Step back in time at Crane’s Country Store and Museum, which has been family-owned and operated since 1889. Shop the offerings of this authentic general store, including name brand outdoor apparel like Carhartt, Wolverine, and Filson, pocket knives, and hunting accessories all while snacking on a $1 bologna sandwich (cheese costs an extra 50 cents). Head over to the museum to wander through rooms of memorabilia likely found in Williamsburg in the late 1900s.

America’s National Churchill Museum commemorates the life of Sir Winston Churchill, who visited Westminster College in 1946 to deliver his famed Iron Curtain speech. Exhibits examine Churchill’s leadership and policies from World War I to the dawn of the Cold War. The museum resides under the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, a 17th-century Christopher Wren church relocated to Fulton stone-by-stone in the 1960s. The museum grounds features several sculptures, including Breakthrough which was created from sections of the Berlin Wall by Churchill’s granddaughter Edwina Sandys. Dedicated by Ronald Regan in 1990, it is the largest remnant of the wall to stand outside of Berlin. Numerous world leaders have since delivered speeches at the museum, including Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walesa, and Madelaine Albright.

Indulge your car fantasies at the Auto World Museum, where more than 20,000 square feet of space is dedicated to vintage automobiles and some of the most memorable vehicles ever known.

The newly renovated historic Brick District Playhouse is the cultural anchor fof Fulton’s lovely, downtown Brick District. The elevated stage area under the decorative squared proscenium arch provides the perfect platform for plays and concerts, and the space is the perfect venue for special events and meetings. The theatre partners with Brick District shops and restaurants to host a variety of events such as Morels & Microbrews, Holiday Open House, and more.

Callaway’s attractions don’t stop there. Venture out to Kingdom City to learn the poignant story behind the Missouri Firefighter Memorial.
Get your history fix at the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society. Or tour the Victorian architecture of the 158 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, many designed by noted architect M.F. Bell. A display at William Woods University will thrill fans of Helen Stephens, the “Fulton Flash,” who won two gold medals at the 1936 Olympics.

The joy of discovery awaits you around every corner of Callaway County.
