HANDS ON:

Do-it-yourself can be both fun and inspiring – especially when you’re creating something artistic.

  • Shop for quilting supplies and enroll in classes at Bits & Pieces, in Fulton. And be sure to check out their fun Mystery Five-0 quarterly program for quilters who love a good mystery.

  • Quilters also love exploring Rooster Creek Company in New Bloomfield. They hand-select every fabric, notion and accessory with care, ensuring that only the finest materials make their way into your hands, and they offer classes.

  • Instead of a needle, you can pick up a brush and express your artistic side at Art With Mary in Fulton. Owner Mary Garcia is offering art classes and hosts Paint Night Out events at her studio located at 528 Court Street in the Brick District.

  • For a more intimate art experience, contact Lynn Porter for an individual or small group class at her home studio on Business 54 in Fulton. Contact the artist by texting 660-351-6915 to set up an appointment. Commissions and new art are also available.

EYES ON:

Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder – and Callaway County has a variety of ways to enjoy it, even if you feel you don’t have what it takes to do it yourself.

  • Browse through the Mildred M. Cox Gallery at William Woods University in Fulton, featuring rotating exhibits from students, faculty, alumni, and regional artists alike. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

  • Be sure to check out the fully-restored 1920 theater, The Brick District Playhouse in Fulton, which serves as cultural anchor for Fulton’s charming Brick District with traveling shows, children’s theater, concerts, special events and festivals.

  • Enjoy the work of a master maker at Green Meadow Barn Company, south of Millersburg. Carolyn Hinton preserves the heritage and ambiance of old barns and homesteads by transforming the reclaimed wood into focal pieces to fit any décor. Make an appointment in advance to visit.

  • You might be surprised to discover art at America’s National Churchill Museum in Fulton. Winston Churchill carried Britain through its darkest days in World War II, and the museum documents his extraordinary life and features his personal paintings. Outside the museum stands the Breakthrough sculpture, memorializing the fall of the Berlin Wall created by Churchill’s granddaughter, artist Edwina Sandys, from remnants of the wall.

Art and creativity can be found everywhere you look – especially if you’re looking the Callaway.
