Sunshine, Sweet Treats & Spontaneity: Summer in Callaway

Whether you’re soaking up the sun or chasing the nearest shade, there’s no shortage of ways to play, unwind, and make memories right here in Callaway County.

For most of us, summer brings on thoughts of lounging around a pool and beating the heat with a dip in the water. Oestreich Municipal Pool offers a six lane 25- meter lap pool, a dive tank, a baby pool, double slides attached to the lap pool and a concession stand.

For the athletes in your party, check out Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, known throughout the state for having the best greens in the area and Railwood Golf Club in Holts Summit, for a challenging yet affordable day on the links.

Instead of chasing a little white ball, maybe you’d prefer to fling a disc. If so, take a turn at disc golf at Veterans Park in Fulton or the Holts Summit City Park.

There’s something for every age at Battle Creek Paintball, Missouri’s #1 paintball park, located at Kingdom City. Laser tag, paintball, Airsoft – take your pick all year round with open play on Saturdays and Sundays.

Test your skills with a full range of shotgun experiences at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports, west of Kingdom City. Challenge yourself with everything from skeet and trap, to 5-stand, mini-clays, a variety of tower shooting, and sporting clays incorporating both woods and open courses.

Beat the heat by spending some time indoors at Go-Po Popcorn in Fulton’s Brick District. Play a few board games and enjoy a variety of flavor treats ranging from sweet to savory and everything in between.

When you’ve filled up on popcorn and board games, explore America’s love affair with the automobile at Auto World Museum. Stroll through vignettes portraying the history of Callaway County that feature nearly 80 rare vehicles dating back to the dawn of the automotive age.

What’s summer without special treats? Indulge your tastebuds with gourmet cotton candy at The Spot, or for grown-ups only, explore refreshing frozen cocktails on the patio at The Station.

After the sun goes down, depending on the day, head over to Brooklyn Pizza or Serenity Valley Winery for some live music, or 54 Country in Kingdom City for a little dancing.

So grab your shades, call your crew, and let spontaneity lead the way. Summer days are meant to be savored - and there’s no better place to do that than right here in Callaway County.
